Father of the Internet

http://msnbcmedia2.msn.com/j/ap/nybz10412212020.widec.jpgSir Timothy John Berners-Lee was born on June 8, 1955 in London, England. Berners-Lee is a British engineer and computer scientist credited with inventing the World Wide Web.

He first proposed the WWW in March of 1989. When no one adopted his idea he decided to create it himself. On 25 December 1990, with the help of a young student at CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research he implemented the first successful communication between an http client and a server via the Internet.

Tim Berners-Lee is currently the director of the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C), the organization that oversees the Web's continued development.

In June of 2009 Prime Minister Gordon Brown announced Berners-Lee will work with the UK Government to help make data more open and accessible on the Web, building on the work of the Power of Information Task Force.

He was also one of the pioneer voices in favor of Net Neutrality and supports that no one should not control or monitor customers browsing activities without their consent.

Berners-Lee is one of the most well-recognized names in this technologically advanced world. He truly represents the country of his homeland and the prestige of the citizens in England.

Let's start with a little history...

The United Kingdom is comprised of England, Scotland, Wales, and Great Britain. The British Isles include some islands not technically included in the UK. England is the lower part of the UK. It shares land borders with Scotland to the north and Wales to the west. The Irish Sea is northwest, the Celtic Sea is to the southwest and the North Sea is to the East, with the English Channel to the south separating it from continental Europe.

England
It is always important to learn the fundamentals before delving deeper into any one subject. Before I really start analyzing the use of technology in England, I would like to share with you some of the history and common facts about this country.

England is the biggest country in the United Kingdom. It is a country that occupies most of the southern two thirds of Great Britain. The total area of England is 130,410 sq km (50, 352 sq mi). England contains about 84% of the UK population. Many Americans often use England, Great Britain, and the United Kingdom as interchangeable words. This is a very common misconception and can be offensive to those who live in the United Kingdom.

EnglandThe capital of the UK is in England. The capital, seat of government, and the largest city in the United Kingdom is London. London is also is the capital of England.

All of Great Britain has been ruled by the UK government in London since 1707. In 1999 the first elections to the newly created Scottish Parliament and National Assembly for Wales took place leaving England as the only part of the Great Britain with no devolved assembly or parliament.
